Selling Your Old Gold Jewelry

How to Value and Sell Old and Scrap Gold Jewelry.

Welcome to the fifth entry in our Sell Your Old Gold and Unwanted Gold Jewelry For Cash series.

With the economy in shambles and gold prices high, gold jewelry is another type of gold commodity that is a good source of investment, mainly due to its monetary value.

Gold jewelry items like gold rings, bracelets, earrings, necklaces and pendants can be stunning in both their artful designs and intrinsic glitter, as well as their high price and exclusivity.

Selling Old, Unwanted and Damaged Gold Jewelry

If you have gold jewelry items you would like to sell you need to sort them into two piles, one pile that can be sold as scrap gold and a second for jewelry items that are unique enough and in fine enough condition to still maintain their intrinsic value as jewelry.

The first pile of old gold jewelry can be sold to a gold buyer or auction online, mail in purchase or gold home party as scrap gold. Of course, with the gold home party you have the advantage of getting paid immediately, usually in cash, and you get to meet the gold buyer face to face.

Your second pile of gold jewelry, you may want to think twice before selling as scrap gold, because there may be items worth much more as is. A better approach would be to have these jewelries professionally appraised before making a final decision.

Once you know what each item is actually worth, you will be better equiped to make a decision as to what items to sell as scrap gold and which are to be kept or sold through a jewelry auction, or jewelry store that buys or consigns quality used jewelries.

Selling old gold jewelry for its scrap gold content sometimes returns little when compared to its original value as jewelry, but of course there are exceptions.

Since the prices paid for scrap gold are based on just the value of the metal itself, while completely ignoring the craftmanship, aesthetic, antique, and sentimental value, it only makes sense that not all your old gold jewelry items are suitable to be sold off at a gold party as scrap gold.

Please, use your common sense and if in doubt seek out a second opinion.

A reputable gold buyer, such as Gold Parties Canada and Fast Cash Gold Parties, would point out any items (brought for sale) that they believed where too valuable as is to be sold as scrap and melted down for their gold. Unfortunately, not all gold dealers are so honest. That's why its best if you take responsibility yourself for having any questionable jewelry pieces appraised before selling them as scrap.

Now, having said all that, if you are like most people, although you may have a few select pieces of jewelry unsuited for selling as scrap gold, most of your old, unwanted gold jewelry is comprised of old class rings and rings from long past relationships, broken chains and bracelets, mismatched earrings and just 'plain old jewelry' you no longer wear.

When separating your old jewelry into your two piles, you simply have to keep in mind that there are some pieces that indeed have little or no resale value, other for the gold they contain. These of course are the items you put in pile one and bring to your gold home party or scrap gold buyer and sell for some extra cash.

Lets face it, an earring that has lost its mate isn't of much value and simply must be bound for scrapping.

So, take your good gold jewelries and have them appraised so you know their worth, and remember that any gold jewelry that is less than 10 karats cannot be legally sold as gold. Also, real gold jewelry has the karat amount stamped right into it.

If the stamp is not present, chances are, it isn’t real gold.
